Pep Band
I Wanna Rock! (Rock!)
The UCSB Pep Band has entertained thousands of fans during UCSB Men's and Women's basketball games. The band is comprised solely of students, is run by a student, and has earned quite a reputation throughout the college sports world. The band was very popular with the CBS cameras during the 2002 NCAA Men's Basketball tournament in Albuquerque and showed Santa Barbara's true colors in Indiana where, in the middle of winter, they strutted into the Purdue University arena wearing Hawaiian shirts and shorts. In March 2004 they brought much needed color to the Women's Sweet 16 on Asylum St. in drab Hartford, Connecticut.
Musicians of all skill levels are invited and encouraged to rock. If you'd like to join the band, email Melissa Wiese at gauchopepband@cox.net with the subject: I Wanna Rock! (Rock!) - second rock optional. Someone, somewhere will be yelling it back.
Things about the band that YOU should know:
- They like 80's pop and butt rock, with a little bit of 70's soul thrown in for good measure.
- They can talk trash with the best of them. Opposing bands rue the day they make fun of the Gaucho band (right, Irvine?)
- They do costume changes! And they're better dancers than (enter opposing team's name here) dance squad.
- What other band in the NCAA wears ponchos and sombreros as their uniform? Homemade at that! (the ponchos, we're crafty, but not that crafty)
- They're excellent mullet hunters.
- They throw killer parties.
- Journey kicks ass. The band wanted you to know that.
- Jesus is just alright with them. Jesus is just alright, whoa yeah.
